Hungerford Nichols is happy to be involved with many West Michigan organizations helping to make our community a better place to live and work. Annually, our staff volunteers over 3,600 hours with over 100 local organizations! We also do significant audit work with local non-profit organizations at discounted rates and serve on many local boards and committees.

Here are but a few examples of our community involvement:

Michigan Celebrates Small Business
Hungerford Nichols is proud to partner with Michigan Celebrates Small Business as the due diligence officer to verify the strength and qualifications of award nominees and alternates for the 50 Companies to Watch event.

United Way
Our work with the United Way includes participation in their annual Day of Caring and voluntary employee contributions to their Annual Campaign Drive, as well as monetary and goods donations to a non-profit organization sponsored through our Annual Update for Accountants Seminar held each December. Additionally, active involvement by many of our employees includes weekly tutoring of at-risk students through the United Way’s Schools of Hope program.

Diabetes Walk
The Hungerford Nichols team raises money annually for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk to Cure Diabetes at the walk each September. The firm has now raised over $24,000 for this very worthy cause. We are proud to help contribute to this ongoing research, which is really paying off for younger generations.

GVSU Fundraising
Hungerford Nichols launched a matching gift fundraising campaign to support Grand Valley State University’s new L. William Seidman Center, a cornerstone of the school’s Seidman College of Business. Grand Valley has raised $20 million of the $25 million necessary from private funds. Our fundraising effort within the firm raised $30,000!

Environmental Commitments
Among our many commitments to the community is our dedication to environmental sustainability. When it comes to your business and your money, Hungerford believes in saving you as much “green” as we can. We think the Earth deserves that same courtesy.

We aim to be a sustainable CPA firm focused on the triple bottom line that is leading the curve for others.

Goal: Reduce our environmental impact and be a leading environmental and socially-oriented organization.

Check out some of the ways we’re making that happen below:

  • Established a green office team and developed a sustainability vision.
  • Implemented a green initiative throughout the office including composting, recycling, paper gator and trash reduction.
  • Removal of trash cans at each employee’s desks encouraging the recycling effort.
  • Replaced existing roof and increased insulation.
  • Implemented green office procedures into new hiring orientation.
  • Instituted a green product purchasing plan.
  • Decreased our paper usage and continue with our “paperless” initiative.
  • Developed a corporate social responsibility program.
  • Reduced our water and energy consumption
